SSL / TLS certificates on beehiiv
An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate, now more accurately called a TLS (Transport Layer Security) certificate, is a digital ID for a website that serves two main purposes. First, it verifies the website's identity to your browser, ensuring you're connecting to the legitimate site and not a fake one. Second, it enables an encrypted ‘secret tunnel’ for all the information you send and receive (like passwords or credit card numbers), scrambling it so that only your browser and the correct website can read it, keeping your private data safe.
A TLS certificate also ensures your site is served over HTTPS instead of HTTP. Most modern browsers require HTTPS for site security and trust signals, so having an active TLS certificate is essential to building trust with your subscribers.
By default, a TLS certificate is automatically provided for all beehiiv-powered websites, including those using subdomains. And for those using a custom domain, when you have it set as either your web domain or redirect domain, we’ll automatically generate and manage the TLS certificate for you.
No manual configuration or renewal is needed for beehiiv-provided TLS certificates, we handle that for you behind the scenes. This ensures that all traffic routed through your domain is encrypted and secure.
