Understanding your website analytics

Notice: This feature is part of beehiiv’s Winter Release Event and is available on paid plans for publications using the new Website Builder. It’s currently in Beta, with early access first open to Max users. Users on other plans can request access using the Request early access button. Full access will roll out to all new Website Builder users in the coming weeks.

Website analytics provide powerful insight into how your site is performing — no external tools required. You’ll get real-time, data-driven metrics that reveal audience behavior, traffic sources, and engagement patterns, all organized in a convenient dashboard to help you make smarter decisions and refine your content strategy with confidence.

This guide breaks down each part of the Website Analytics dashboard, explaining what every section measures and how to interpret the data. It also includes answers to frequently asked questions at the end.

Website analytics are just one piece of beehiiv’s robust analytics suite. Based on your beehiiv plan, you can also access the following reports to inform your content, growth, and monetization strategies:

Note: Your website analytics are unique to your publication and audience. The data shown in this article are examples only; your results will vary based on traffic, engagement, and growth trends.

High-level performance stats

To access your website analytics, go to the left panel dashboard in your account and click Website > Analytics

At the top of your Website Analytics dashboard, you’ll find a high-level chart summarizing your site’s key metrics. The following data points are displayed by default:

  • Unique Visitors: The number of distinct visitors in the selected period.
  • Page Views: Total page views within the selected period.
  • Sessions: The number of sessions recorded in the selected period.
  • Bounce Rate: The percentage of visitors who viewed only one page before leaving.
  • Session Duration: The average time visitors spend on your site.

By default, all metrics appear together on the chart, showing data for the last four weeks for paid plans, or 30 days for Launch plans.

Customize your chart view

Hover over any point on the graph to see detailed data for that specific date.

Click one or more metrics to customize your view; click again to remove a  metric.

Deselect all metrics to reset the chart to its default view, showing every data point.

Hover over a date on the graph to view day-specific insights and easily compare performance trends at a  glance.

What you’ll see depends on your plan

Website analytics are available only for publications using the new Website Builder. The data shown in your dashboard depends on both your plan and when your site began collecting analytics:

  • New sites on the Website Builder begin collecting data as soon as the website is published.
  • Existing sites already on the Website Builder (v2) include data beginning October 29, 2025.
  • Sites migrated from the legacy builder will gain access to website analytics after migrating, with historical data available back to November 12, 2025.

Your plan determines which metrics and filter options you’ll see:

  • Max Plan: Full access to analytics graphs, all date filters, plus data charts.
  • Scale Plan: Analytics graphs with source and medium filters across all dates, plus data charts.
  • Launch Plan: Analytics graphs for the last 30 days, without filter options.
  • Free Trial: Full access to analytics graphs, filters, and charts during your trial period.

Using filters in your analytics dashboard

Filters are one of the most powerful tools for analyzing your website data, allowing you to create nearly limitless combinations of insights.

Filters are located above your performance chart. From there, you can:

  • Click Filters to build custom filters.
  • Use the date range dropdown to view data from: All time, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 4 weeks, Last 3 months, Last 12 months, Month to date, Quarter to date, or Year to date.

Reminder: The filters available to you depend on your plan level.

How to add filters

  1. Above your performance stats, click Filters to open the filter modal.

  2. A modal will pop up where you can choose your data logic.
    • All (AND): Narrows your results, data must meet all selected conditions.
    • At least one (OR): Broadens results, data must meet one or more conditions.
    • None: Excludes data that meets the selected condition(s).

  3. Add groups or filters, if desired. Click Add group to nest multiple sets of conditions for more precise results. For each group, choose how granular you want your data using the same All, At least one, or None options.

  4. When you create a group, a corresponding filter is added automatically. To add additional filters, click Add filter within the group or create new single filters outside of groups.

Pro Tip: Your filtering can be as simple or as detailed as your analysis requires.
  5. For each filter you add, open the Select attribute dropdown to choose a data type, such as device, browser, location, or UTM parameters. In this filtering example, we’ll use Country as our attribute.

  6. Define your filter logic. Choose between: does not contain, starts with, equals, does not equal, ends with, exists, does not exist, or contains. For this example, we’ll be using equals.

  7. Set your criteria. For this example, since we’re looking at countries, we’ll use United States as our filter.

  8. The dashboard will now show data matching your criteria. You can combine filters and groups for advanced analysis.

For this example, the data provided would include two sets of criteria: the traffic is at least one (OR) of being from the United States with a browser that is not Chrome, AND the traffic is not using iPad as a device to access your site.

  9. When finished, click Save to return to your analytics dashboard.

  10. Once added, the Filters option will update to show the number of filters applied to your data. Click it anytime to reopen the modal.

  11. To manage filters, hover over any one to reveal Duplicate and Delete options. To remove an entire group, click Delete group.
